NUVERB GENERAL QUESTIONS
All NUVERB Entries:
What is the minimum hardware requirement for Nuverb?

NuVerb will run on any NuBus MacIntosh from the Mac II and later models.

What is the latest software for the Nuverb?

V1.02 is the latest NuVerb standalone software.  V1.51 is the latest NuVerb TDM software.

What are the pin outs of the cable?

DB9  Female  Male

1           1          1

2           3

4                       2

6           2

8                       3

AES standard pin 2 is hot. Pins 3, 5, 7 and 9 on the DB9 connecter have no connections.

How do I obtain a copy of the "Soft FPU" for the Lexicon Nuverb Cards?

Go to the downloads area in the Support section of our web site (www.lexicon.com) and click on the Nuverb link.

How do I connect my NuVerb card?

Connect NuVerb’s blue AES cable to the back of the NuVerb card (DB-9 connector) and connect the XLR plugs to the AES in and out 1-2 on your Digidesign audio interface. If you are using an 888 interface, NuVerb must use the first AES pair (1-2). (The AES input on the 888 that provides the clock needed for a slave device).

System Requirements:

System 7.11 or higher

8 MB RAM minimum

32-bit mode

Do you need Soft FPU to use NuVerb in a Mac 7100?

PowerMacs do not provide an FPU on the NuBus.  It is necessary to use SoftFPU in this setup.

Can MAC OS 8 be used?

No,  The last operating system that we have succesfully tested NuVerb with was OS7.6.1.

Will NuVerb receive a 24 bit signal?

You can send NuVerb a 24 bit signal which will then be truncated to 20 bits.

Is it possible to run multiple NuVerb cards in the same computer?

Yes, However, there are some caveats.

In an expansion chassis you can only have 1 stand alone NuVerb, but as many TDM Nuverbs as you can fit.

In a mainframe you can have as many stand alone NuVerbs as you can fit.

Can the software run 2 NuVerbs?

Yes!

When Pro Tools is booting, the NuVerb Administrator hangs, or crashes with a type 1 error.

Make sure you are running System software 7.11 or higher (we recommend 7.5.1). Use your Extension Manager to trim down your startup extensions when using your Macintosh for digital audio. Only the necessary extensions such as Digisystem Init and others mandatory  for your setup should be loaded. Are you using other plug-ins that utilize the Interbase Administrator

(Apogee’s plug-in uses this)?  If so, the wrong Administrator could be booting and is incompatible with NuVerb TDM. You may need to make an archive of your Administrators and trash the versions that are not being used so that they do not interfere with one another.

Trouble using Nuverb with ProTools V4.1.

You must first install ProTools V4.1 and then do a custom install from the NuVerb TDM install disks.

My System: Hardware: Mac PowerPC 7100; System: Mac OS 8.6

Although Lexicon does not support third party solutions, we have had a customer report that this problem was solved using "SoftwareFPU" Version 3.07, a freeware from John Neil & Associates: http://www.jna.com. The new freeware for download  works with OS 8.6 .

I get a System error 10 when loading a program.

System error 10 is a Macintosh system error. You probably need to narrow down the problem starting with your extensions. The problem may not be related to Nuverb directly. You should remove all the extensions that are not necessary for your audio system and see if that solves the problem. Then start adding back the other extensions in order of their importance to you until you find the conflicting extensions.

Every time I select a NuVerb insert, I get a window that says "All DSPs are maxed out" and NuVerb will not load.

Make sure you have increased the RAM allocation in your DAE. Make sure you are running ProTools V3.1.

If using a new (PowerPC) expansion chassis, make sure your ECI card is in slot C. Make sure your NuVerb card is seated properly with the TDM piggyback mounted correctly. Make sure your NuVerb card is being accessed by the 1.02 application software.

If you are using NuVerb TDM V1.50 software you will need to quit both the NuVerb and Interbase Administrators and then Restart the ProTools system.

Error message stating" Bad Digital I/O".

Make sure NuVerb is properly connected to the audio source.

NuverbTDM in Slot 8 inside a 12 slot Expansion chassis. Installed a Radius VideoVisionStudio capture card inside a Mac 8100/110. Nuverb TDM stopped working and DigiTest doesn't see it inside the chassis.

The VVS card (which goes inside the Mac) makes Slot 8 in the NuBus Expansion chassis unusable!  Try bypassing that slot and put the NuVerb in Slot 9, and also skip a TDM node. Make sure you are using version 1.51 Nuverb TDM software. The above works fine with System 8.1 and even 8.51.
